Join us at Science Gallery London for a creative workshop specifically for medical practitioners, with poet Wendy French.

This event is a collaboration between Arts & Health Hub and King's Undergraduate Medical Education in the Community (KUMEC), and is a part of a series of events aimed at medical practitioners and medical students focused on practitioner mental health, taking place during the The Art of Care exhibition on at Science Gallery London (22nd June - 31st July). This event is generously funded by the Louise Tebboth Foundation.

About the Workshop.

Stanley Kunitz, the American poet, who has just died, aged 100, wrote, ‘We create a self we can bear to live with’.

We all have to create, whether intentionally or unintentionally, a persona in different situations: firstly as a child in a family, at school, teenager, adult, still maybe a child with parents living, a live-in partner, parent ourselves, work colleague, and you in the medical profession as a trusted human being to your patients.

How do we live with ourselves with all these varying expectations on us from people?

How do we cope with the pressures of everyday?

What do we do take care of ourselves? What do we carry in our heads that there is never enough time to think about? Work through?

In this workshop we will spend time thinking about the different rooms in our head and how we can look after ourselves. We will write!

EM Forster, ‘said ‘How do I know what I feel until I see it written down?’
